An Orange County man whose grandfather served during World War II, spent the 75th Anniversary of D-Day performing during a ceremony on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France.
It was a sobering and surreal experience for Andrew Parker. His grandfather Edward Parker landed as an army scout shortly after D-Day.
A graduate of Concordia University Irvine, Andrew Parker plays the sax with the Concordia Wind Orchestra. They performed on Omaha Beach during a remembrance ceremony alongside the D-Day Memorial Wind Band, which is on a 10-day tour through France and Belgium.
One thing his grandfather did do was gather sand from the beach in a Smuckers jar as a souvenir to bring home, so the grandson did the same while he was there using an empty water bottle.
