Plácido Domingo has announced Sunday that he's tested positive for the coronavirus.
The 79-year-old performer announced his illness on the heels of sexual misconduct allegations against him, staining his career.
He and his family are reportedly in self-isolation at home while the tenor suffers from a fever and a cough.
"I feel it is my moral duty to announce to you that I have tested positive for COVID19, the Corona virus," he said in a Facebook post.
"I beg everyone to be extremely careful, follow the basic guidelines by washing your hands frequently, keeping at least 6 foot distance from others, doing everything you can to stop the virus from spreading and please above all stay home if you can!" he continued.
"Together we can fight this virus and stop the current worldwide crisis, so we can hopefully retunr to our normal daily lives very soon."
For most people, coronavirus cases result in mild symptoms such as fever and coughing, but for others with pre-existing health conditions, the virus can be much worse, even fatal.
Domingo recently had a number of performances canceled after the American Guild of Musical Artists and LA Opera found sexual misconduct allegations against him credible. He then issued an apology and resigned as the director of the LA Opera.
