Thousands Hit Orange County Beaches Amid Southern California Heat Wave

The rising temperatures had Southern California beachgoers flocking to the shores of Orange County amid the coronavirus pandemic.

On Friday, tens of thousands of people flocked to the open beaches in Huntington Beach and Newport Beach among others, reported ABC7.

With temperatures in the 90s in places, large crowds were spotted at area beaches and not all were maintaining safe distances from each other.

Many sun worshippers and surfers were spotted not keeping the recommended six feet of space between themselves, while others refrained from wearing face coverings or masks, according to the outlet.

Lifeguards in Newport Beach estimate the crowds numbered approximately 40,000 on Friday, more than double the amount from the previous 24 hours.

While some Orange County beaches are open, the parking lots remain closed.

All Los Angeles County beaches are closed and officials urged residents not to head to open beaches in Orange and Ventura counties.

Currently, Los Angeles County Stay-at-Home orders are in effect until May 15th.
