UPDATE: Santa Monica PD Arrest a Man Who Attempted to Rob an Armored Truck

Santa Monica Police officers were on the scene at 3rd and Arizona Avenue in Santa Monica Friday responding to shots fired at the Third Street Promenade. 

According to LAPD Van Nuys, at around 11:15 am, a man approached an armored truck wielding a knife, attempting to rob it. The security officer shot at the suspect three times. None of the shots hit the man.

They found the suspect hiding in a local church with a knife and a bag of money. 

The Promenade is open, but there's a heavy police presence in the are and thick traffic. 

This is not an active shooter situation.

BREAKING: Reports of gunfire at the Santa Monica Promenade are accurate, but no one has been hurt and this is NOT an active shooter. This appears to have been a security guard shooting at a suspect for unknown reasons, per SaMo PD.

If you're planning on coming to Santa Monica, 3rd St Promenade specifically, please stay away for the time being until there is an all clear. There is an unknown situation going on right now with a lot of police presence. Possible gunshots heard by people outside, stay safe.
