(KNX 1070) - Just two weeks ago, Los Angeles teachers returned to the classroom after a brief strike.

Now,  there's a new report released by the state that puts a lot of LAUSD schools on a list of lowest-performing schools.

The lowest-performing schools were measured by the state's new accountability tool called the California School Dashboard. The tool measures chronic absenteeism, graduation rate, suspension rate, and academics (which include performance in English language arts/literacy and mathematics), according to the California School Dashboard website.

Los Angeles Unified School District has 110 schools that require assistance and 56 of those are in the bottom five percent. Twenty-two of the 110 are independent charter schools.

Seth Litt is the executive director of Parent Revolution, an advocacy group in Los Angeles that works with families to improve educational opportunities for kids.

"This list is a list of schools that are clearly not creating those opportunities for children, in fact, maybe doing harm to children's' futures," he said.

He notes that it has been a long time since the state released a list of the campuses that were in trouble.

"Many of the schools on this list are the same schools that were identified as lowest performing six years ago under a different system," Litt said.

Litt is concerned about what the state and LAUSD are going to do about it

A total of 1,640 schools were identified by the state for comprehensive assistance.
