(KNX 1070) - Chris Darden, a former prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson murder trial, withdrew as the defense attorney for Eric Ronald Holder, the accused suspect in rapper Nipsey Hussle's shooting.

Hussle was allegedly shot outside his South LA store last month based on a personal dispute, prompting mass mourning in Los Angeles and across the country.

The rapper was trying to better the community around him and give back.

Darden said he didn't know if he would disclose the reasons for withdrawing from the case now or later but said there had been threats made against him and his family, including his children.

"To those who issued those threats to my children please pay close attention so there is no misunderstanding," he wrote in his public Facebook post.

"As far as withdrawing from the case, I don't know what his point was for taking the case from the get-go, I dont know what his motive was, I don't know..." he said in a video to KNX reporter Margaret Carrero.

A public defender appeared in Darden’s place with Holder for the brief court hearing Friday.
