Investigators in the explosive college admissions cheating scandal are now seeking information from prep schools including several in the Los Angeles area.
They’ve issued subpoenas.
These elite schools are the cream of the crop like Harvard Westlake in Studio City and Sage Hill in Newport Beach.
Law enforcement sources told the Times that prosecutors are trying to get more information from the schools about whether the parents or others involved in the college fraud scheme sought or received help from the prep schools.
Harvard Westlake is just one of the schools that received subpoenas in the case.
The Times says the schools themselves are not the targets of the investigation.
Sources told the Times that several schools were being looked at prosecutors want to know whether the parents and others who have been accused in the fraud case sought or received help from the prep schools.
Several Harvard Westlake parents used the services of the mastermind of the scheme to help them enroll their kids at prestigious universities.
In a statement, Harvard Westlake told the Times it was conducting an internal review to fully understand the scope of any relationship that the mastermind may have had with school families….and that the school would provide any info that authorities request in the investigation.
Governor Gavin Newsom is making strong statements about it.
He says there needs to be deep reflection on changes to the way donations are made to universities.
