Los Angeles could soon be home to a grocery store operated by online retail giant Amazon, which already operates Whole Foods Markets but is reported today to be planning a further expansion into the grocery business.

Citing unnamed sources, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Amazon is planning to open dozens of grocery stores around the country, with the first planned for Los Angeles, possibly opening by the end of the year.

The company also plans to open grocery stores in San Francisco, Seattle, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Chicago, according to the paper.

According to the report, the new stores would be noticeably different than Whole Foods Markets, and the two chains would not be in direct competition. Whole Foods is known for carrying all-natural, organic products, while the new stores are expected to sell more mainstream products.

Amazon has not commented on the report.
