On Tuesday morning, a stationary LAPD sergeant on a motorcycle was seriously injured after colliding with what turned out to be Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. near the USC campus.
Video, obtained by ABC 7 News, shows Butts trying to make a left turn when his SUV was struck by another car.
The mayor's car spins into and hits an LAPD sergeant whose motorcycle was parked on the sidewalk near a fountain.
The force of the crash sent the sergeant off his motorcycle and right into the fountain.
The crash took place Tuesday morning near the intersection of Exposition Boulevard and Figueroa Street.
The mayor released a statement Wednesday, according to ABC 7 News.
"I am thankful the occupants of the other vehicle were uninjured. I am thankful that the Motorcycle Officer is expected to make a full recovery. He has been on my mind and heart since the accident. I was a Motorcycle officer with Inglewood Police and was hit twice by cars myself. It is a dangerous job. I was so grateful to see that he was alert and communicative at the scene. I pray for his speedy recovery."
