Harry Potter's Birthday: 5 of the Film's Stars Then and Now

By Eldis Sula, Audacy

They grow up so fast. Today, Harry Potter is 39 years old. July 31st is a very special day in the Harry Potter universe. It is Harry's birthday, the day that he finds out he's a wizard, and the actual birthday of author J.K. Rowling as well. To celebrate this coveted day in everyone's favorite magical franchise, we've compiled then-and-now photos so you can see how much the film's young stars have grown up.

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe has followed a unique career trajectory following his debut as the titular character in the franchise's first film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Since then, the 30-year-old has appeared on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying as well as various films including the odd Swiss Army Man.

Emma Watson

Emma Watson debuted in the first Potter film when she was just 11 years old. She has continued in act in projects like Beauty and the Best, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and My Week With Marilyn, as well as doing some very adult stuff like getting an English degree from Brown University and working with the United Nations.

Rupert Grint

Originally starring in the first film as Harry's best friend and the second-biggest underdog of the Potter world, Rupert Grint is all grown up. Since being cast as Ron, he's worked on a range of projects, starting in 2002 with a co-leading role in the family film Thunderpants, and most recently in Snatch, a television show he starred in and executive produced.

Tom Felton

The so Slytherin villain that Potter die-hards love to hate isn't a kid anymore. Since winning two consecutive MTV Movie Awards in 2010 and 2011 for Best Villain for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy, he has worked on several films including 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Matthew Lewis

Matthew Lewis starred as Neville Longbottom in the wizardly film series. Here he's seen rocking a budding auteur mustache at a Celebration of Harry Potter event in Orlando this past January.
