California Highway Patrol officers requested backup from the LAPD around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after a group of hit-and-run suspects escaped after crashing into other vehicles on the eastbound Ventura (134) Freeway near Figueroa Street, the LAPD reported.
One suspect ran into a nearby residential neighborhood and was pursued by LAPD officers, who together with the CHP, arrested the suspect in 1200 block of Eagle Vista Drive, ABC 7 said.
As police were the searching the neighborhood for additional suspects, LAPD officers encountered a resident who was armed with a firearm in the backyard of a home, police said. After they ordered the woman multiple times to drop the gun, the woman ignored their commands and the officers shot her in the shoulder, ABC 7 reported.
She was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition, police said.
Another suspect was injured in the collision on the 134 Freeway and taken to a hospital.
The shooting is under investigation and police are continuing their search for additional suspects.
