BURBANK (CNS) - Two teens from Bakersfield were in custody Thursday after leading Burbank police on a chase in a stolen car that collided with an officer's vehicle and injured him, authorities said.
Officers went to the West Garage of the Burbank Town Center about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a reckless driver, the Burbank Police Department reported.
"The witness provided a description of the vehicle, driver, and license plate number," police said in a statement. "Police officers arrived within minutes and located the suspect driving recklessly through the garage as described by the witness."
Officers tried to stop the car, but it kept going toward an exit, police said.
"The driver collided with a responding police vehicle, causing significant damage to the police car, and injuring the officer," police said. "Police officers attempted to stop the car again; however, the driver refused to yield, leading police on a pursuit."
The high-speed chase went on surface streets through Burbank and onto the Golden State (5) Freeway, police said.
"The pursuit came to an end when the driver lost control of the vehicle and came to a stop on Interstate 5 Highway at Empire Avenue," police said. "The driver and passenger of the vehicle were quickly apprehended. The vehicle was determined to have been reported stolen from Bakersfield."
The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life- threatening injuries, and he was released, police said.
"The suspects have been identified as a 16-year-old female juvenile and a 17-year-old male juvenile, both residents of Bakersfield," police said. "Both were arrested and booked for multiple felonies."
Information was not immediately available on which suspect was the driver. Formal charges are pending review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, police said.
