2 killed, several injured in Lancaster shooting

Two men were fatally shot and several others were injured in a shooting in Lancaster, authorities said Thursday.

Investigators responded to the 800 block of East Avenue J-12 around 5:55 p.m. Wednesday regarding a shooting, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's officials said both victims were taken to a hospital, where they later died.

CBS 2 reported several others went to a hospital on their own.

Fox 11 reported detectives said the shooting was gang-related.

Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris called on county officials to do more to combat crime in his city, even if it meant bringing in the National Guard. "Give me the power to protect the people who live here," he told ABC 7.

The two deaths are part of a rash of fatal shootings have rocked Lancaster over a 24-hour period, including two on Tuesday.
