The traffic congestion on the 405 Freeway from West Los Angeles through Van Nuys caused headaches for a lot of drivers this past weekend, but now drivers are being warned to get used to it.
It’s part of the I-405 Repaving Project, which is designed to improve the highway's surface and on and off-ramp conditions. The project is being done on the weekend to minimize the impact on commuter traffic.
CalTrans is planning 25 weekend closures between now and 2027.
Lauren Wallikee with CalTrans District 7 warns drivers to be prepared if they have no other options but to go through the area.

“Alternate routes, plan your schedule accordingly, and I want to emphasize there are three lanes open in each direction, but again, capacity is reduced,” she said.
The next closure is set for Sept. 5 through the 8th.
