3 men arrested for allegedly stealing items from Indio business

Authorities on Thursday sought information from the public regarding three men who were arrested for allegedly stealing merchandise valued at more than $4,500 from a business in Indio.

Raymond Rojas, 34, Steven Venegas, 23, and Elian Martinez, 24, were booked into Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of felony theft- related charges, according to the Indio Police Department. Their cities of residence were not provided.

Officers responded to a report of shoplifting shortly before 11:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 42000 block of Jackson St.

An employee at the business told authorities that two men allegedly stole numerous items and fled the scene in a gray Nissan Rogue.

Officers located the suspect vehicle later that day at a gas station in the 44000 block of Golf Center Parkway.

Police said they attempted to make contact with the three occupants inside the vehicle when two suspects left the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting a pursuit.

One of the suspects ran across Interstate 10 before being apprehended, while the second suspect was found hiding in dense brush east of Golf Center Parkway, the department stated.

The third suspect remained inside the vehicle.

The stolen items were recovered and returned to the business.
