3 SoCal teachers arrested for vandalism during pro-Palestinian rally
LAPD

Police told KNX News' Emily Valdez that up to 1,500 people marched through downtown L.A. Saturday during a pro-Palestinian rally, most just expressing their First Amendment rights.

A small portion of the group, however, had other plans - using spray paint and markers to graffiti things such as 'Free Palestine,' 'Ceasefire,' and 'F Israel' on whatever they could.

According to LAPD Captain Raul Jovel, "Some of this stuff was spray painted on government buildings, MTA buses, MTA stops, and some private businesses as well. So it kind of included a lot of different smaller acts of vandalism."

Captain Jovel says they arrested four people for graffiti vandalism, three of them teachers and all caught on camera in the act.

"Although it's a property crime, it really, you know, when you vandalize government structures or other businesses, it impacts the community where this happens. People don't feel safe, they see the graffiti on the wall, they feel intimidated, and we really can't allow that. We need our neighborhoods where people feel safe to walk around the street," said Jouvel.

The graffiti has since been painted over.
