An intense high pressure system is expected to drive temperatures into the triple digits in parts of Los Angeles County this week.
Bryan Lewis twitch the National Weather Service says that when you combine a high-altitude, high-pressure system to our east with almost zero onshore flow, the result is temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s on the beach, and a lot higher further inland.
“Near downtown L.A., we’re expecting high 90s,” he told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou. “Getting into the valleys, we’re expecting from the low hundreds to even up to about 114 degrees in Woodland Hills.”
The heat wave is expected to begin Tuesday and peak on Thursday or Friday.
Lewis said there’s no significant cool-off expected at night, with lows forecasted near 80 degrees. With humidity levels expected to drop below 18%, he says these are prime conditions for people to suffer heat-related illnesses.
