5.1 earthquake hits near Ojai, felt across L.A.

A 5.1 preliminary earthquake was reported near Ojai and was felt across Southern California as Tropical Storm Hilary bore down on the region Sunday afternoon.

The USGS initially reported the earthquake as a 5.0.

The earthquake's epicenter was reported roughly four miles to the southeast of Ojai.

“At 2:41PM, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred Southeast of Ojai on the Sisar fault. Numerous additional aftershocks have and will continue to occur. There are no immediate reports of damage at this time,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ventura Co Sheriff's Emergency Manager Patrick Maynard told KNX News there are no reports of damage and that initial checks of infrastructure show no major issues though an assessment is ongoing. There are no reports of injuries.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said the Los Angeles Fire Department is in Earthquake Operation mode.

"All 106 neighborhood fire stations will conduct a strategic survey," she said.

The National Weather Service Los Angeles said there's no tsunami threat for Southern California.
