Remember “Carmageddon,” the demolition project that shut down 10 miles of the 405 Freeway for a weekend in 2011?
Well, Carmageddon 2 is about to commence.
Caltrans will hold a virtual public meeting on Thursday night to discuss an upcoming project on the 405 through the Sepulveda Pass. The massive repaving job between Westwood and Van Nuys is expected to take four years to complete.
“Basically, the project is going to be replacing sections of two lanes in each direction from Victory Blvd. to Mulholland Dr., and then sections of other lanes are also going to be repaired,” Caltrans’ Lauren Walike said.
The construction schedule hasn’t been completely laid out yet, but Walike said there will be 22 “extended partial weekend closures” that will last from Friday night to Monday morning.
“Well, I hope they work out the logistics so it doesn't affect the traffic too badly, but that's a scary, scary prospect there,” one driver told KNX News’ Jon Baird. “Four years, that’s a long time. That’s an American presidency right there.”
