On Monday, acting Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Andrés Chait weighed in on the resignation of Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.
Chait was at Robert Kennedy Community Schools as the first day of summer school kicked off.
“Regardless of whatever may be going on with transitions in leadership, it's really about the kids and making sure that we have programs that students and families can take part in,” he told reporters.
He didn’t get into whether he’d like to become Carvalho’s permanent replacement.
“It's not my place to say, you know, whatever decision the board makes is theirs to make,” he said. “Mine is to maintain a focus on our students and families.”
Carvalho resigned Sunday night, months after the FBI raided his home and office. The federal investigation is tied to district contracts, including a failed AI chatbot venture that he reportedly brought to the LAUSD. He was placed on leave.
Carvalho denies he did anything wrong.
