An Altadena artist is bringing the city together with a new mural.

Austin Scott created “Altadena is Forever,” the 600-square-foot mural, which is painted on the wall of Unicorporated Coffee. The mural, which is Scott’s first, pays tribute to the spirit of Atladena.

“So we have a sign that is Black Lives Matter because the black community is integral to Altadena and the artistic community here,” he told  KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian. “NASA with a sign that says, ‘aliens.’ We got the Unincorporated, which is who gave me this space. [We have] Foxy’s, Side Pie, Cafe de Leche, Pizza Of Venice. The old liquor store or the 4 that we probably have that burned down, Little Red Hen Coffee Shop -  some really cool places that are super iconic to Dena that we don't have right now.”

He said people have been responding to the mural.

“I had a family stop. They like screeched their brakes at night and pulled over and this whole family got out,” he recalled. “And I was out here working at night and the mom came up and she was crying and she was looking at all the places. She's like, ‘These are all my favorite places. I can't, I can't believe this. How are you doing this right now?’”

It started when Scott began sketching as a way to cope with the loss brought on by the Eaton Fire. After posting his drawings online and getting “overwhelming responses,” he created free coloring pages to help families process grief together.

Scott said he’s happy the mural is bringing happiness to the community.
