In an update this week, the Angeles National Forest shared that it is now at a "very high" fire danger level, which actually a positive sign of improvement. Previously the Forest and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument were under "extreme" danger.

We can all thank the recent rainfall for at least some relief to the dryness of the vegetation in the areas, the Forest Service said.

“Fire conditions have improved...No large active fires are burning, and resource availability remains at or above normal for this time of year," Angeles National Forest fire chief Robert Garcia said in a statement. "Initial attack resources remain plenty and readily available."

While historically the state's most sever wildfires have occurred from October through December, the USFS said that continuing development near forests creates situations with the potential for "catastrophic property damage."

With the downgrade in danger comes a change to recreation sites. Campfires and stoves are once again allowed for use in developed recreation sites.

The following restrictions remain in place:

- No fires, campfire or stove fire outside of a developed recreation site.

-No smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.

-No Welding, or operating an acetylene or other torch with open flame.

-No discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun, except within the authorized public shooting ranges
