Armed suspect fatally shot by police in Walnut Park

An armed robbery suspect was shot and killed by South Gate Police Department officers in a parking lot and an investigation of the shooting continues Thursday.

According to the South Gate Police Department, officers were sent to Walnut Street and Seville Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday where they had tracked the suspect, who was wanted for two armed robberies that occurred over a week ago, to a parking lot at the location.

Prior to the shooting, the suspect parked his vehicle in the parking lot and pointed a gun at the officers, according to ABC.

It was not immediately known what prompted police to open fire on the suspect. Video from the scene showed an SUV in which the suspect was apparently found, and a two handguns were recovered at the scene.

Multiple evidence markers were also visible on the ground.

Deputy Daniel Dominguez Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed to City News Service that his department has taken over the investigation of the shooting.
