A suspect was arrested Tuesday night in the deadly movie theater shooting in Corona.
Joseph Jimenez, 20, was arrested by Corona police. He is being held without bail.
The shooting took place Monday night at a screening for the horror movie “The Forever Purge.” The premise of films in the Purge series is that all crime is legal once a year for 12 hours.
Police said officers were dispatched a little before midnight on Monday. They found two people with gunshot injuries when they arrived.
An 18-year-old woman, later identified as Rylee Goodrich, died at the theater. Paramedics rushed 19-year-old Anthony Barajas to the hospital with severe injuries. He was put on life support.
Barajas is a TikTok personality with more than 1 million followers and had most recently posted about going on vacation with his family.
Police said a weapon recovered from the Jimenez residence matched the caliber of the one used in the shooting.
Corona Police Department Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis said it appears the shooting was unprovoked and that they were able to track down Jimenez thanks to a tip from someone who was in the area of the Regal Edwards Corona Crossings.
There [were] witnesses that came forward that provided us with information that led us in the direction of the suspect,” said Kouroubacalis.
