An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a Rite Aid employee who was killed during an argument with shoplifters.

Anthony Lemus, 20, turned himself in on Monday. Lemus was booked on a murder charge, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Two suspects entered a Rite Aid in Glassell Park where 36-year-old Miguel Peñaloza was working on July 15.

According to the police, the two suspects tried to take two cases of beer without paying. When Peñaloza confronted the two men, a brief struggle over the beer ended in Peñaloza being shot to death.

On a GoFundMe page set up to assist Peñaloza’s family with funeral costs and legal aid, family friend Cassandra Marie said, “Miguel’s beautiful spirit touched the hearts of everyone who knew him and his death has left so many heartbroken and in disbelief. He is mourned by his whole community.”

The fundraiser has almost reached its $50,000 goal.

Lemus is being held on $2 million bail.

Investigators say they are still looking for a second suspect in the Glassell Park shooting.
