Mayor Karen Bass reacted to the Supreme Court’s decision on Monday, which clears the way for broad immigration sweeps to continue in Los Angeles.
“The idea that they would say it is OK for masked men to snatch people off the street who appear to be Latino or if they hear Spanish spoken, I think, is completely un-American, and this is a very disappointing ruling,” she told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener. “I think that it rolls back advances that were made during the civil rights era, and it just sends a chill across the country in terms of what the Supreme Court will allow the administration to do.”
She said she’s concerned that the Trump administration will “seek to punish” L.A.
“We did get two positive court decisions, and now I will be fearful that they will return with a vengeance, and my biggest concern will be they will start up, snatching people off the street,” she continued.

In a statement released after the decision, Bass said, “We will not allow the White House, nor the Supreme Court, to divide us.”
“And to all Angelenos, I will never stop fighting for your rights, your dignity, and your safety, despite this administration’s efforts to threaten them,” she said “We will stand united.”
