Big Bear Lake is nearing the brim ahead of the summer tourist rush, with a water level near capacity thanks to this winter’s storms.
“We are three feet 10 inches from capacity, and we haven’t had these water levels since May of 2011,” Visit Big Bear’s Travis Scott said.
Scott said the lake is filled up right to the edge, and they’re ready for lots of boating and fishing as the weather warms up.
“Everything's in bloom. The hiking adventures are just gonna be spectacular,” he said. “The ski resorts are in the process right now of flipping to mountain biking tracks.”
This weekend, Big Bear Lake will host Maifest, a traditional German celebration that Scott described as “Oktoberfest’s little sister.” For Memorial Day weekend, the lake will open its summer season with a “grill and chill” beer tasting and barbecue event.
