California may soon expand COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to all adults.
"We're anticipating within five and a half weeks where we can eliminate all of the tiering. And make available vaccines for everybody across the spectrum because supply will exponentially increase," Governor Gavin Newsom says.
President Biden wants states to open up vaccinations to all adults by May 1.
In LA County, millions of adults are still waiting to get even a first dose.
And the county's getting fewer than 300,000 doses a week.
"But presuming our vaccine supplies do increase rapidly, I think we do feel confident we will have the capacity to ramp up to about 1 million doses a week," says Dr. Paul Simon, the county's chief science officer. He says discussions with vaccination partners are underway to figure out how to make that happen.
