Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday says he's signed a couple of executive orders that will end most pandemic restrictions next week.

That also means the state's color coded yellow, orange, purple and red tiers will be gone. Effective June 15, restrictions such as physical distancing, capacity limits and the county tier system will end, according to the Governor's Office press release.

Newsom also terminated Stay-at-Home Order that was implemented early in the pandemic to protect Californians, effective June 15.

In most settings, except schools, hospitals, crowded areas like public transit, masks will still be required. But in most other settings, people can take off their masks with the new rules.

State regulators this afternoon are expected to announce that
fully vaccinated people will be able to stop wearing masks in most indoor settings.

Newsom says he thinks Cal-OSHA will change its rules to follow the lead of the CDC and state health officials. Newsom indicated that if Cal-OSHA doesn't change the mask rules, he'll step in to make it happen.

“California is turning the page on this pandemic, thanks to swift action by the state and the work of Californians who followed public health guidelines and got vaccinated to protect themselves and their communities,” said Governor Newsom. “With nearly 40 million vaccines administered and among the lowest case rates in the nation, we are lifting the orders that impact Californians on a day-to-day basis while remaining vigilant to protect public health and safety as the pandemic persists.”
