LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Infamously traffic-heavy California has been ranked the worst place in America for drivers.
The study, compiled by Bankrate, takes into account cost, driving quality, safety, and weather when determining its 50-state driver conditions ranking. This year if the fourth in a row the organization has found California at the bottom of the list.
A significant portion of California's rock-bottom ranking appeared attributable to simple dollars and cents. A combination of fuel, repairs, and insurance made the Golden State the most expensive state to own a car in the country.
California was ranked seventh from the bottom in terms of quality of driving infrastructure and 15th in terms of road safety. The state ranked fourth overall in terms of weather, but this high grade only accounted for 5% of Bankrate's total calculation.
