A long-time staple at one of the most iconic children’s restaurants is going away, as Chuck E. Cheese shared that it was getting rid of its animatronic band at all locations except one.

The company shared the news in a press release, noting that “Munch’s Make Believe Band” will continue its never-ending show at the Northridge, California, location.

At a press conference earlier this month, Chuck E. shared that the band is excited to continue playing at Northridge, remarking, “We love performing so much, it’s practically hard-wired into us.”

President and CEO of Chuck E. Cheese’s parent company, CEC Entertainment, David McKillips, said in the news release that they know the band is iconic but that it’s time for the legacy to come to an end.

“As an important part of the legacy of the brand, we know that the animatronic band holds a special place for many fans in their childhood memories,” McKillips said. “We want our fans to know that the decision to keep the band here is meant as a gesture of love and gratitude as our legacy continues to evolve in new ways.”

While the company would shut down all of the bands, McKillips says that the Northridge location will continue to see performances for the sake of nostalgia.

Founder Nolan Bushnell said in the release that other locations will begin to “offer experiences and create memories with the new vision.”

“Chuck E. Cheese is and was an essential part of growing up. It has had an enormous impact on how families have fun, providing a place where kids and adults alike could be entertained – from animatronic shows tailored more for the adults, to games and prizes for the kids,” Bushnell said.
