A massive record-breaking $100 million donation has gone to the cancer hospital City of Hope to fund a first-of-its-kind national integrative oncology program.

Dr. Richard Lee with City of Hope told KNX News reporter Nataly Tavidian it's about "Thinking beyond the standard box that we have for cancer care, incorporating other areas for solutions and therapies such as eastern medicine."

This east-meets-west approach includes the integration of evidence-based interventions such as acupuncture for pain or nausea and using mind-body practices like meditation to help patients with stress management, anxiety, or sleep.

The $100 million gift is the Panda Charitable Family Foundation's largest donation to any organization. The foundation was started by Andrew and Peggy Cherng, co-founders and co-CEOs of Panda Express.

City of Hope's program will be piloted in L.A. and Orange County, but Dr. Lee hopes it eventually extends to the hospital's national care and research system and beyond.
