On Thursday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced the 10 Freeway would reopen no later than Tuesday. It came a couple of days after the governor announced that repairs would take three to five weeks to complete.

"By Tuesday of next week, trucks, and passenger vehicles in both directions will be moving again... That is not guaranteed. We still have chemical sampling that comes in on a daily basis, but the bridge structure itself seems to be in better shape than we anticipated," he said.

One woman told KNX News’ Jon Baird that the reopening sounds great.

“We’re happy and excited and hoping it really is open because this is just madness,” she said. “It’s crazy. It’s been too crazy.”

She added that it normally takes her 30 minutes to work, but since the 10 Freeway closure, it’s taken her two hours.

A box truck driver also told KNX News’ Jon Baird the traffic has been a nightmare since the closure.

“Every street you turn to is either blocked or you got to go a different way,” he said.

Governor Newsom said the bridge structure “seems to be in better shape” than they expected.

The news of the closure opening up sooner was first published in a report by The Los Angeles Times, which cited an anonymous engineer involved in the construction meetings.
