Culver City is getting ready to launch a specialized mobile team to help people experiencing mental health crises.
KNX News’ Emily Valdez spoke to Dr. Daniel Richardson, who’s in charge of the new program, at the Culver City Mobile Crisis Team launch Tuesday.
“Anyone experiencing a mental health crisis can call our number from the hours of 10 till 6, and the team will go out to their location and provide psychological first aid and provide them any resources,” he said. “I mean, our main priority is to keep folks safe.”
However, if somebody calls 911, the new mobile crisis team wouldn’t be dispatched first. Richardson said that police and the fire department can request the crisis team on the scene. The crisis team may then take over the call altogether if there are no safety concerns or any criminal aspects.

People can reach the Culver City Mobile Crisis Team Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at (310) 253-5770.
