Tuesday is the deadline for Lineage Logistics, the company whose warehouse caught on fire almost a month ago, to address the smell from the warehouse.
State regulators have received almost 1,000 complaints about the foul odor coming from the Boyle Heights warehouse fire, which has brought rats and insects to the area.
Almost a month after the fire, the company continues to remove the source of the smell, which is over 85 million pounds of now rotting food.
The city has offered neighboring residents to stay in an Airbnb while the cleanup continues. KNX News’ Karen Adams spoke to a mother who took up the offer.
“The homes we go to, my kids just want to go home,” she said. “There's nothing like being home, but then just dealing with the smell, it's unbearable.”
She said her two kids are frustrated with not being able to go outside this summer due to the warehouse odor and that they’ve been dealing with headaches, nausea, and stomach aches.
Last week, state regulators gave Lineage key measures to implement to meet the demands of controlling the stench of their warehouse.
