Disneyland may have reopened in April, but one classic attraction remains closed. Eager Disney fans will have to keep waiting for a chance to ride the Matterhorn bobsleds, which are under refurbishment.
An SFGate story chronicles the many construction issues facing the Matterhorn, such as a decaying interior and outdated track tires. Disneyland vlogger David Erickson is quoted as saying, “She’s old and getting older” of the beloved ride.
Walt Disney fell in love with the real Matterhorn during the filming of 1959 live-action film “Third Man on the Mountain.” He decided to bring a reproduction of the Swiss Alps mountain to the Anaheim park.
The Matterhorn was the first roller-coaster style ride in the park and remains a Disneyland original. No other Disney park has the bumpy mountain ride.
Ahead of its reopening, Disneyland updated another park favorite, the Haunted Mansion.
The original "April To December" portraits returned to the attraction. Disney is also reportedly considering removing the hanging corpse from the stretching room scene. The full list of improvements can be found on the Disney Parks Blog.
