LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Dodgers Pitcher Trevor Bauer broke his silence on sexual allegations Tuesday, following Los Angeles County prosecutors' decision to not move forward with charges related to sexual encounters with his accuser in 2021.
In a statement shared on YouTube, Bauer said he was finally able to "set the record straight," after a thorough investigation into two sexual encounters with the 27-year-old that took place on April 21 and May 16 of last year.
"In August, the Los Angeles Superior Court reviewed a host of information and testimony, and after a four day hearing denied a request for a permanent restraining order against me, as the Court correctly found that there was no basis for this request," Bauer said.
"More importantly, in doing so, the Court also found that no sexual assault, act of abuse, or non-consensual sex occurred between me and the woman seeking the restraining order."
He went on to say that he and his representatives expected Tuesday's decision, and were not surprised when prosecutors said they would not press charges.
Following months of questions from fans and the media, Bauer said he was previously unable to make a statement while the Pasadena Police Department and District Attorney's Office investigated. However, after the decision Tuesday he went on the record to address his side of the story as it relates to the relationship he had with his accuser.
"I had consensual sex with this woman on two occasions at my residence in Pasadena, during which we engaged in rough sex. This is something that she brought up, we discussed together, and both agreed to engage in," he said.
"We established rules and boundaries and I followed them. On both occasions, she consented beforehand when we established those boundaries. She also repeatedly consented during sex, when I asked her multiple times if she was enjoying herself and if she wanted to continue. In fact, she continued to direct me as to what she wanted in no uncertain terms."
In both instances, Bauer said the woman left his house the next day and "certainly did not look anything like the photos that were later attacked to her family court declaration and circulated by her lawyers to the media."
The photos Bauer is referring to depicted a blonde woman with scratches and swelling on her face, in addition to several bruises under her eyes. Other than that the woman, identified only as "Ms. Hill" in court proceedings, did not look that way when she left his home, Bauer did not elaborate on the photos in his statement.
Last August Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman said evidence in the case against Bauer showed that he did not go beyond boundaries set by the woman and it was clear that his accuser had looked to extend the relationship with him, according to City News Service.
"You may not be my biggest fan or agree with everything I’ve said over the years, and that’s ok – I’m not a perfect person. If you want to judge me for engaging in rough sex with a woman that I hardly knew, that’s ok too," Bauer said.
"In evaluating my life over recent months, it's clear I've made some poor choices, particularly in regards to the people that I've chosen to associate with, but I am not the person that this woman, her lawyers, and certain members of the media have painted me to be."
