Driver fatally shot by security guard outside South L.A. Home Depot identified

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities Monday identified a motorist who was fatally shot by a security guard in the parking lot of a business in the south Los Angeles area.

The shooting occurred outside a Home Depot store at 1830 Slauson Ave. around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Carlos Lara, Jr., 30, of Los Angeles died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

According to the preliminary investigation, the guard allegedly attempted to detain Lara in connection with an assault investigation, and the shooting occurred as Lara was trying to drive away, the LAPD reported.

The guard was detained at the scene, a firearm was recovered, and the investigation was continuing, police said.
