Driver killed in South L.A. crash identified

Authorities Monday identified a motorist who was killed when his vehicle crashed into a light pole and an unoccupied building in South Los Angeles.

The crash occurred about 12:20 a.m. Saturday on westbound Manchester Avenue at Central Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Alejandro Banales, 28, died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. His city of residence was not known.

A woman riding in the vehicle was taken to a hospital in unknown condition. The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
