Arriving officers found a vehicle engulfed in flames with the driver outside of it, according to a news release. Officers also found a downed traffic control light pole — a possible result of the crash.

Witnesses told police the driver allegedly struck a male pedestrian as he waited on the sidewalk to cross the intersection, according to the release. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, identified as 65-year-old Jon Weir of Garden Grove, was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. Weir was taken to a hospital, where he was to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash prompted a Sig Alert for the affected area. Eastbound Victoria Street was scheduled to open up at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
