President Donald Trump visited Los Angeles on Friday to tour the devastation in the Pacific Palisades – but his trip won’t include a stop in Altadena, which was similarly destroyed by the Eaton Fire.
Some Eaton Fire victims told KNX News’ Karen Adams they were upset, but not surprised that Trump snubbed the predominantly Black neighborhood.
“It is what it is,” one woman said. “Hey, us brown people aren't top on his priority list, let me put it like that.”
Brianna Carruthers, who lost her family home in the fire, also expressed disappointment.
“It's a lot of families that have been down here for generations and generations and generations, and I think it's unfortunate that they're kind of making it a political thing,” she said. “I'm not saying that he shouldn't be helping the Palisades, but Altadena is just as special. You know, we understand that they got certain types of homes up there and it's flabbergasting, but what about the families that literally built it up from the top? It was all they had.”
Others said it's not necessary that Trump tours the devastation personally as long as he sends federal aid to help in the rebuilding process.

On Wednesday, Trump threatened to withhold federal aid for L.A. unless the state changes unrelated water management policies. Shortly before taking off for his L.A. visit, he also proposed “getting rid of” FEMA.
