FX’s Shogun and The Bear and Netflix’s Baby Reindeer were among the big winners at the 76th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night.
After making history at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Shogun took home the awards for Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor (Hiroyuki Sanada), Lead Actress (Anna Sawai), and Directing for a Drama Series.
Baby Reindeer took home Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Its star, Richard Gadd, picked up two Emmys himself – one for Lead Actor and the other for Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
Jessica Gunning won in the Supporting Actress category.
The Bear also picked up some awards, including a historic win for one of the show’s stars Liza Colón-Zayas, who became the first Latina to win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
Jeremy Allen White took home Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series while Ebon Moss-Bacharach won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
HBO’s Hacks was another big winner of the night, taking home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Jean Smart. It also won Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
Schitt’s Creek Reunion
Eugene and Dan Levy, the co-creators of Schitt’s Creek co-hosted the ceremony. During their monologue, the Levy men poked fun at “The Bear” being nominated in the comedy category.
“Now, I love the show, and I know some of you will be expecting us to make a joke about whether ‘The Bear’ is really a comedy,” Eugene Levy said. “But in the true spirit of ‘The Bear,’ we will not be making any jokes.”
The duo also poked fun at Baby Reindeer, Sabrina Carpenter, and discussed representation of the LGBTQIA+ community in the shows nominated.

At the end of the show, both the Levy men were joined by fellow Schitt’s Creek cast member Annie Murphy, who played daughter Alexis, and Catherine O’Hara, who played the matriarch of the Schitt clan, Moira Rose. O’Hara presented Outstanding Comedy Series
Celebrating beloved TV shows (and its character types)
The show paid tribute to beloved TV types – TV dad, TV mom, villains, doctors, coaches, cops, and lawyers while presenting awards.
The TV dads presenting Lead Actor in a Comedy Series were George Lopez, Damon Wayans, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, while the TV moms presenting Writing in a Comedy Series were Meredith Baxter, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Connie Britton.
The TV villains, which were Katy Bates, Giancarlo Esposito, and Anthony Starr, presented Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
The TV doctors, Mindy Kaling, Zach Braff, and Mekhi Phifer, presented Writing for a Drama Series.
The TV coaches, Jane Lynch and Brendan Hunt, introduced Directing for a Drama Award; however, it was Olympians Ilona Maher, Stephen Nedorosci, and Caeleb Dressel, and Paralympian Ezra Frech presented the award.
The TV cops, Don Johnson, Jimmy Smitts, and Niecy Nash-Betts, presented Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
The TV lawyers, Viola Davis, Christine Baranski, and Gina Torres presented Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
The ceremony also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Happy Days as its stars Ron Howard and Henry Winkler presented Best Direction of a Comedy Series.
Saturday Night Live also celebrated it’s upcoming 50th season as former cast members and Emmy nominees Seth Meyers, Maya Rudolph, and Kristen Wiig joined current cast member, also an Emmy nominee, Bowen Yang presented Writing for a Variety Special.
The West Wing also celebrated its 25th anniversary with cast members Michael Sheen, Allison Janney, Dulé Hill, Richard Schiff, and Janel Moloney presenting Outstanding Drama Series.
The show also celebrated Murphy Brown as its star, Candice Bergen, presented Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. While Bergen also made a quip about current candidate for vice president J.D. Vance.
“Today a republican candidate for Vice President would never attack a woman for having kids,” Bergen said, reflecting on then- Vice President Dan Quayle’s criticism of Murphy Brown raising a child by herself. “So, as they say, my work here is done. Meow.”
