The former manager of a DMV office in Lincoln Park is facing up to 20 years in prison, for taking bribes to approve driver's licenses for people who could not pass their driving exams.
Forty-four-year-old Jovana Nettles of Norwalk pled guilty Monday to a federal mail fraud charge, taking cash bridges to illegally issue permits, and entering passing scores for applicants for people who did not actually take or pass the necessary tests.
Prosecutors say this was part of a larger scheme, with the alleged leader, Antanacia Villegas, a former FMV license registration examiner in Torrance and Gardena, expected to plead guilty to a federal fraud charge next month.
Nettles “was part of a conspiracy involving corrupt DMV employees and brokers,” prosecutors wrote in the plea agreement.
