Former University of Southern California gynecologist George Tyndall entered a not-guilty plea on sexual abuse charges.

The 76-year-old was charged with 27 felonies involving 16 patients from 2009 to 2016. Those charges include 18 counts of sexual penetration of an unconscious person.

The hearing came after Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler said he found "sufficient cause" to allow the case to proceed to trial.

Lucy Chi, one of the accusers, asked the judge to expedite the process as much as possible.

Chi also said in a message to his other accusers “our day will come.”

“Justice will come,” she said, “We will see Tyndall tried and accounted for. He will go to court and he will go to jail.”

Andrew Flyer, one of Tyndall’s lawyers, said, “We are very confident in this case that once there is a trial - because not only do the victims have a right to a speedy trial, but so does Dr. Tyndall - that he will be exonerated of these claims.”

He added that they will seek to have Tyndall’s bail modified and reduced, as well as have his electronic monitor removed.

The accusations against Tyndall came to light in an investigative article by the Los Angeles Times.

In January 2020, a federal judge approved a $215 million class-action settlement between USC and some of Tyndall’s accusers.

If Tyndall is convicted, he could face up to 64 years in state prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney.
