Yet another recorded conversation is making political waves in Los Angeles.
This time, the challenger to Kevin de León's council seat, Ysabel Jurado, made a shockingly disparaging comment regarding the police force.
Jurado wants to represent downtown Los Angeles, and last week, she was making her case during a meet-the-candidate forum with about 10 young people at Cal State Los Angeles.
When asked her opinion about her opponent's use of discretionary money to help pay for more cops in the district, city council hopeful Ysabel Jurado loosely quoted a lyric from a YE, formerly Kanye West's song 'All Falls Down,' saying, "...F**k the police, that's how I see 'em..."
The Ye lyrics are, "F** the police, that's how I treat 'em. We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom." However, Jurado attributes the words to the band Rage Against the Machine, who, in the past, have covered a song by NWA with the title 'F**k the Police,' and those lyrics are, "F**k the police comin' straight from the underground,..." among other references to the police.
Regardless of the attribution, the sentiments seem to be overtly anti-police.

KNX News' Craig Fiegener spoke with de León about the statement made by his challenger. "I guess this is a confirmation of where she stands with regards to the issue of public safety," he said. "I'm shocked. Profoundly disrespectful, highly irresponsible, and immature," he said of the comment.
Jamie McBride, representative of the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), said, "The voters of Los Angeles finally get to see her true colors. She's anti-police...the immaturity and unprofessionalism that she displays? I think that's dangerous."
The LAPPL, the union representing 9,900 sworn officers, has endorsed Kevin de León.
Jurado defended her comment, saying it was part of a conversation about police accountability and that she still supports public safety.
