Flames caused extensive damage to a house under construction and spread to two nearby buildings in Winnetka Monday morning.

The fire was reported at about 1:35 a.m. at 7950 N. Laramie Ave., said the Los Angeles Fire Department's Margaret Stewart.

Firefighters found a single family home under construction that was well-involved in flames and extended to two nearby buildings, Stewart said.

"Firefighters fought fire in all three buildings and achieved a knockdown in 46 minutes with no injuries reported," she said.

One exposed building had fire damage in the attic and the other was damaged on the second floor, Stewart said.

Jaime, a neighbor, told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou that the people who live in the home east of the house that was under construction were scrambling to save their lives.

“They barely went out of the house,” he said.

Demetriou reported that arson investigators questioned neighbors and put a dog trained to find the scent of flammable liquids into the wreckage, but there was no sign of any accelerant use or point of origin for the fire.
