Fire damages garage of ‘Yoakum Castle’

A coroner van arrives at 9701 Yoakum Drive, the scene of a LAPD officer related shooting which resulted in the death of a young costumed Halloween party-goer October 28, 2000 in Bel Air, CA. It is reported that Los Angeles Police Department officers responding to a complaint of a noisy party unable to get an answer at the front door entered the garden of the property and shot dead through a glass door a person who they thought was aiming a gun at the officer. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Flames erupted in the garage of a three-story hillside home in the Beverly Crest area of Los Angeles Saturday and firefighters put them out in under 35 minutes.

The fire was reported at 5:34 p.m. in the street-level floor of the ascending home at 9701 Yoakum Drive, said the Los Angeles Fire Department's Brian Humphrey.

The home was built in 1945, Humphrey said.

Redfin refers to the home at that address as the "Yoakum Castle," and lists it as being more than 5,000 square feet in size.

Its occupants were out before firefighters arrived.

"Firefighters took just 34 minutes to fully extinguish stubborn fire that was largely confined to the garage area," Humphrey said.

No injuries were reported, he said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
