A firefighter was injured while battling a blaze at a building in downtown Los Angeles early Friday.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to 683 S. Kohler St. after 2 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke in the area, according to Cpt. Cody Weireter.

He told KNX News’ Jon Baird the fire spread to at least five buildings.

“We’re unsure at this point exactly what was burning; however, it was a rapid-fire spread,” Cpt. Weireter sad. “But firefighters were able to get on [the] scene immediately start to isolate where that fire was and confine it and hopefully you better prevent the exposures.”
