LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A former Santa Clarita high school principal has been charged with perjury and conflict of interest in connection with a foreign exchange program he arranged with a school in China.

William Bolde, 65, faces two felony counts, according to Los Angeles County prosecutors. They alleged he helped establish the exchange program with a school in Gaoxin, China, along with a nonprofit organization to administer the program, and that he had a conflict of interest because he was principal of Saugus High School while also having an employment agreement with the nonprofit.

Bolde was also accused of lying in financial disclosure paperwork.

Bolde spent 14 years as principal of Saugus High School. He surrendered on Saturday to L.A. County sheriff’s deputies.

The ex-principal was “never interviewed by law enforcement, although he was more than willing to do so,” Bolde’s attorney said in a statement on Saturday. “This is all connected to a frivolous lawsuit filed by others in an attempt to cover up their own wrongdoing.”

Bolde will return to court in Downtown Los Angeles on Jan. 12 for arraignment.
