Some Gardena high school students had their project launched into space Thursday afternoon.

KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian reported that eight Junipero Serra High School students watched the successful SpaceX launch that happened in Florida. They had a watch party at their school as they received support from teachers. Their project is headed up to the International Space Station.

“It's definitely a lifelong accomplishment, something that I'll be looking at back on for probably the rest of my life,” said Isaiah Dunn, one of the eight students.

He explained that the project was printed with 3D resin.

“It's very small because it has to be in a compact container, and that's one of the actual processes and issues that we have to deal with,” Dunn said.

The students said they felt relieved and excited as they saw the launch.

The students are part of the National Society of Black Engineers Club. They worked closely with USC engineering students, but everything was built at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena.
